Educating people about horticulture where they live and work

Master Gardeners are University of Minnesota-trained volunteers whose job is to educate the public about a variety of horticulture subjects using readily-available, up-to-date research-based information.

 

This educational effort is designed to enhance the public's quality of life and to promote good stewardship of the environment.

WHO WE ARE

University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners are volunteers who enjoy gardening or landscaping, have a desire for life-long learning and have a strong interest in sharing what they learn with others.

Master Gardeners:

  • Educate adults by teaching classes
  • Inspire and teach young people in schools or through summer camp experiences
  • Design beautiful demonstration gardens for non-formal and formal learning experiences
  • Provide landscape design and instruction for Habitat for Humanity sites
  • Answer horticulture questions via the Arboretum Yard and Garden Line phone service
  • Help residents identify plants and diagnose commong insect and disease problems at the Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinics
  • Provide a Q & A service at community events, fairs, farmer's markets or garden centers at Ask A Master Gardener Booths
  • Support organizations such as Great River Greening, local watershed districts and Anoka County Parks and Recreation
  • Provide outreach services through a therapeutic horticulture program
  • Conduct research in support of University intitiatives
